Sam Connor is one of England's true trials ambassadors for the sport. Renowned for his spectacular riding and his celebrity name, he is an idol and hero to many. Sam Connor is, quite simply, the legend of Trials. The crowds worship his gutsy, aggressive style and a determination to win at all costs that produced this a top world-class rider. And Sam has not changed through out recent years. Backed by MRS (Malcolm Rathmell Sport). Sam aims to clinch the win at the British Solo Championship this year and place himself firmly on the WTC leader board. 2004 heralds an exciting season in Sam's career, this exclusive interview gains a rare incite to Sam's determination and focus on the coming season.

Me: You must be thrilled to have signed with MRS?

Sam: I'm really happy to be riding for Malcolm Rathmell Sport; The change of team has really
motivated me, given me a fresh start to the year. I am feeling confident with having someone of Malcolm's
experience and knowledge behind me I can really achieve much better results.

Me: Everyone will know you will be giving 110 percent, which is what you gave last year. Having Graham Jarvis as a team mate and riding the Sherco machine in both the British and World trials championships has got to be the best manufacturers trials duo in 2004.

Sam: Graham has amassed a wealth of experience at top level trials which has earned him a reputation as a brilliant rider - having Graham as a team mate is fantastic news and I'm really looking forward to working with him in the coming season. The Sherco bike is an awesome piece of kit, which suits my riding style to a tee.

Me: What are your thoughts on the 2004 British Championship and who do you see as your main competitors?

Sam: The British Champs are very different for me as we have different rules and regulations here in the UK compared to International events, which is what I gear up for. As always they produce a high quality calibre of rider making the competition tough. I am looking forward to these trials this year as I believe I have a strong chance of winning.

Me: World Trials Championship - do you expect to finish higher than 15th place in WTC this season?

Sam: I would like to finish 10th or better - I missed quite a few rounds out last year; so 15th place last season is not a true representation of where I should have finished.

Sam's popularity and charismatic reputation will be further heightened when MBT (motorbiketrials.com) covers where possible all of Sam rides this season. Sam is widely recognised as one of the best riders in the world. A most glittering and prosperous career awaits Sam for 2004, he is as he puts it "really motivatied". MRS has signed a future world champion and not only this; Sam has the ability to convey himself brilliantly, which is a big plus when it comes to TV interviews and can only do the world of good for Sam's sponsors, MRS and Sherco who have all backed a winner.

"MBT was very disappointed that Sam's exploits in the British and World trials last year did not earn him the wild card ride at Sheffield 2004. Sam battled hard in both Championship's finishing 7th at Twin Ring Motegi, Japan, and third overall to the hugely experienced Steve and Graham in the British Championship. This alone was in MBT's opinion easily good enough to have qualified him for the wild card ride at Sheffield".
