I've never had a good ride at Penshurst, not sure why but I know most riders have one bogie piece of land that brings out their worse riding habits. The journey to Penshurst takes me along the A21 and every time I reach the Hildenbourgh junction it always seems to be raining, has anyone else found this? On arrival at the trial I made my way to the signing point where I was informed the clerk of the course was out adjusting the sections apparently like a headless chicken in the event of the whether taking a turn for the worse. "I assume he was making the sections harder, with more vertical drops, massive climbs and huge obstacles just for the novice route".

The muddiest and hardest sections for me were 3, 7 and 13, these sections had large helpings of traditional Kent swamp mud that can act like a space ship tracker beam sucking you in as soon as you touch the stuff. Section 3 was going to take marks off me because I'm crap riding through thick mud and this section had two large dollops of the stuff. On my third lap and with nothing to lose I decided to go for it, balls out hairy arsed gorilla rider mode. I set for knowing I can only clean this section with full commitment and grit determination after dropping down the approach bank to the first bog I selected fourth wound the bike up and rode straight through, clean so far my confidence running a little higher I was now faced with the second dollop which incidentally has cost most riders a point of two, I whacked it open again and yeeehaarrrr sliding out of control half way up a bank sideways and back down again for my well deserved 5, and I didn't come off.

Section 7 was another muddy section which had an 8 foot slab of the stuff mid way through the section, again I couldn't get through this section without anything less then a 3. Fourth gear was my final offering on lap 3 and I was so nearly clean out I could taste a zero on the marshal's score card. I'll be back next year in true terminator style "I'm going to fit a CR500 crosser engine in my Scorpa".

Section 13 had a variety of turns, climbs drops and yes you guessed it right again 'mud', not a lot mind you but enough for me to lose another handful of marks. Lap one was my best effort and I got unbelievably worse as the trial continued. A big thank you to the Owls club, marshal's and the land owner - cheers.
