Mud, Mud and more Mud...
Should I expect anything else of Kent at
the end of November? The mud in Kent is unique a glue type
texture with a chain lube secretion fling that can engulf everything
it comes in contact with. I personal hate the stuff and this hatred
stems from having large dollops of it in my eye's, my mouth and
in the car.
The trial had approximately 70+ riders, i'm not a regular in
this the SE championship but believe this could be the last round
this season. The SE Intermediate title is being contested by two
prominent riders from the North Kent, Gary Roberts and Andrew
Ely both of similar abilities and both looking to win today -
only one point separated them and Gary was praying for the rain
because he knows the win will be his. A chance encounter in the
parking area before the start of the trial started a show down
of words, a kind of American cowboy movie atmosphere talking tuff
and standing your ground, Gary (Clint Eastwood) was the good guy
and Andrew was the bad guy. (Andrew rides for Wickham MCC and
not Bexleyheath so he's got to be the bad guy, but who is the
ugly one?? Roy was present with me so looks like Roy wins that
one title hands down). Gary loading his six shooter took aim and
had the winning shot "I'll beat Andrew today" and I
reckon Gary did, the ground was still wet from Saturday and with
the support for Gary from all the riders at this event...... to
lift his composure Gary must have won.
Section 1, Lap 1 was my first 5 - well there's a surprise i went
the wrong way and this spelt out my days performance. On a lighter
note the trial nearly had the good fortune of killing an Ely at
section 9, i'm referring to Richard on this section. Section 9,
Richard was all over the place a screaming Gas Gas, the bike going
in the wrong direction and the rider having his usual commentary
when he ended unceremoniously on is ass at the bottom of a tiny
little bank. Joyous fits of laughter is all i could muster when
i saw this happen and now i know what Richard can't ride up the
next NKTC held by Bexleyheath will have some cunning plan sections.
Eddie Roberts unlike Richard was on a flyer with 4 marks lost
on the first lap, Eddie was most definately on the ball and showed
what a talented rider he is, even Richard will need to take a
look at how good Eddie is riding with Ben, Richards younger brother
riding a lot better than Richard from what i saw on the day. Alex
Wigg another rider better than Richard on the day and like Eddie
cleaned section 9 with ease. I didn't get to see Ashley Newberry
ride but i'm sure he rode section 9 better than Richard. (Richard
is one of the top NKTC expert riders in my centre and his performance
at this event did not represent his true abilities, my comments
are expressed at disillusion from what is a very gifted rider).
I didn't finish the trial it was a little to muddy for me and
after hurting my right arm on one of the sections it was time
to call it a day. Well done to all those who finished and Gary
if you've beaten Andrew the first beer in Sheffield is on me mate.
Thumbs up for the land owner, marshals and Barham MCC
The next trial MBT and TI will be attending will be the Mud,
Mud and more Mud.... Horsemondsden team trial, see you there.
