This is the third time I’ve ridden in the Harvest Trial and the third time i've been over the bars at this event. Consistancy is the name of the game in trials but going over the bars is not something to shout consistancy about, why do I bother riding the Harvest Trial? Its because I’ve been over the bars some many times at this and other trials I’ve begun to enjoy it! The Harvest Trial is a tuff hard trial by most people’s standards, a comparison between another hard trial and the Harvest Trial is; The Expert sections at Bexleyheath’s NKTC round 8 were tuff, comparing them against the intermediate route Harvest Trial there was no comparison, I was shaking uncontrollable on some of the Harvest Trial sections and that takes some doing, even the Sidcup 30 didn't have the same effort. But what a brilliant trial this was and i loved ever every minute.

The trial consisted of two laps of seventeen sections. The sections ranged from mad to suicidal with the suicidal sections starting from section 14 and becoming steady more terrifing as I moved to the next. Section 14 started this trio of three sections '14 to 17' running along a deep gully with large trees lining either sides of the banks. The intermediate route was to see-saw this gully sorting the girls from the sheila's for those who bottled it. When I first arrived at section 14 I asked the marshal where the first set of gates were, he point somewhere in a skywardly direction. “I can’t see the cards I said?” The marshal replied “See that tree spike way up there you’ve got to ride around that” Flipping Heck!!! The Marshal waved me onto the secton and selecting third I rang the testicales out of the Scorpa just making it to the top, a sharp left turn at the top sent me abseil back down for the next monster climb. This continued for a couple more times with a clean for me on this section both laps. Section 15 was similar to 14 but had rocks, ‘yum, yum’. After riding section 14 like a world champion I new I could ride anything this trial had to throw at me ‘wrong’. On one of the drops back into the gully and making a pigs ear of riding over some rocks lost three marks, first lap aswell but I done myself proud on lap 2 with a one mark lost. Section 16 had the most terrifying drop some 25 feet near vertical with 'a' vertical 2 foot of it at the top, this was most definately pushing my limits of bottle and scared the living crap out of me, but what made matters worse was the approach. Straight? nope! Good run at it? nope! It had to be ridden from a tight turn at an angle. Three’d it on both laps, say no more. Section 17, the last one of the day had a massive turning climb some 40 feet in height driving over roots, vertical bits and looked really menacing, after my last effort at section 16 I gave this one a go and one’d it on lap one, fived it on lap two because I was to tired to give it a go again. Well that’s it and I’m glad I never imbedded myself in one of them trees on section 14 because the bike may have been damaged. Just one more thing, I went over the bars at section 8 and that’s the third year on the trot I’ve done this at the Harvest Trial, I wonder if I’ll do the same next year? Answers on a post card.

A big thumbs up to Wickham club, marshals and landowner. See you all next year.
